Legendary streetwear brand XLarge is known for
their strong designs and great collaborations. For many years, the brand has
been on-point when it comes to artistic choices and their latest collabo
sneaker with adidas Originals is no exception.
The animal print has recently seen a strong
resurgence in footwear as Nike rereleased their safari Air Maxes that were
received very well and can be seen everywhere on the street. The newest XLarge
sneaker is in line with this trend, but manages to set itself apart from the
majority of elephant or leopard prints that are so popular right now. By using
a Giraffe print fabric that even has the same surface structure, the design
definitely pops out and has a unique look!
More insights on the collabo as well as a
little outlook on future sneaker design can be found in an interesting short-interview by Hypebeast with Yusuke Yamada, the brand’s
head of Public Relations. I love his explanation for why they chose the Giraffe
print: “Giraffes are capable of killing their predators with a swift kick from
their long legs.“
