This man is one of the most respected guys in the fashion world and yet he is relatively unknown to the masses. In contrast to Anna Wintour who represents the Fahion World and Vogue magazine to an extensive audience, Hamish Bowles caters mostly to those in the know. Through his position as International Editor at Large for Vogue magazine, he has become one of the most respected authorities in the world of fashion and interior design.

Just recently, I read a really interesting article on Lenny Cooke over at the New York Times and it looks like his story was turned into a documentary. Cooke was one of America's most interesting and excelling High School Basketball players back in 2001, but became a sad example of what can happen to these kids if they cannot make the jump into a professional league.

Wow it looks like the fashion world has forgiven disgraced fashion designer John Galliano after he has kept a very lowkey profile and has apologized for his anti-semitic remarks 2 years ago in Paris. I hope that his remorse about his actions in the past was honest because the fashion world has been yearning for some of his imagination and larger than life designs.
John Galliano becomes teacher at Parsons and is rumored to be newdesigner at Elsa Schiaparelli!

James Franco's latest movie "Springbreakers" made quite some headlines for its star line-up and crazy storyline. While Franco is mostly known for his acting skills, he is talented in various fields of interest. This shows in his newest effort, the documentary film "The Director" which he presented at this year's Tribeca Film Festival to critical acclaim. The movie follows the steps of Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini who has built a close relationship to Franco since she asked him to be the brand's testimonial back in 2007.
Franco is known for putting out quality work and his relationship to Giannini might have given him some great insights, so I am definately looking forward to this documentary. Watch it below!

Japanese Fashion-retailer Uniqlo is known for their clean yet high quality products and innovative look on fashion. I am a big fan of some of their products such as the basic cashmere sweaters that have an excellent price point! Another great venture was the collaboration with Jil Sander on the J+ line that ran over multiple seasons and turned out some great quality pieces with modern and understated silhouettes, sadly the collaboration ended last year.

Yesterday, I accidentaly found this newly-opened streetwear shop in Düsseldorf called “SOUQ”. The store front looked pretty nice and so I decided to step in and see what they have to offer. I think, they were still unpacking, therefore it was a little hard to see what brands they will carry. Nevertheless, I spotted some pretty incredible stuff!
Update: The store is located on Mühlenstr. 4 right in the heart of the city, check out their facebook here!

Last week, I wrote a little piece on the interesting bond between soft-drink manufacturerer Coca Cola and the fashion world. While the last post covered their ongoing partnership with designers and labels who are asked to redesign the famous Coke bottle, this post gives you an insight into some actual garments and two fashion lines that the brand has created over the last years.
These two collaborations seem to be focused on Asian and South-American markets which is pretty interesting. For example, it looks like the brand wants to position itself as a young, trendy and lifestyle-oriented product by using the affection for western products and their heritage in Asia.

Even though it's certainly Fitzgerald's writing and storytelling that make this book a standout piece of literature, the fact that it has inspired many readers' lifestyle and fashion choices is undeniable. Just by watching the trailer for the new movie or the old Robert Redford version, I have the urge to dress up sharply.
Therefore it's no suprise that the book has served as an inspiration for many menswear designers who have even created "Gatsby" collections!
I have shown my love for F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece "The Great Gatsby" multiple times on this blog and I can say that...
I am sure that there is more to come in the following weeks, but here is a little roundup on some of the excellent marketing activities from Daft Punk over the last 2 months.

For this „influencers“ post, I have picked out someone who likes to stay in the background as a keen observer of the fashion world, movie director Loïc Prigent. His documentaries are a great source of inspiration and an authentic presentation of all parties involved in today’s fashion business. Even though he has worked with the industry for many years building lasting relationships with some of the greatest designers of our time, he manages to present the fashion world with all its beauties and sometimes questionable aspects as well.

When it comes to sneakers, “Supreme NYC” has always provided extremely high quality designs that sold-out in minutes. They have worked with pretty much every big label from “Clarks” to “Vans” but yet again it’s their “Nike” collaborations that I adore the most.

In one of my last posts, I talked about Disney’s recent involvements with the fashion industry and while writing, I thought about other brands that have kept strong ties with the fashion world.
One of the first names that came to mind was “Coca Cola” which got me thinking: How is it possible that a brand which produces sugary soft drinks can have such a strong connection to the fashion world?

I have mentioned my favorite café in Düsseldorf, "Toykio", multiple times on this blog already, but I haven't really posted anything about it's founder and galerist Selim Varol yet. In my opinion Varol is one of the most interesting guys in Düsseldorf's art scene right now and all of his projects provide a great mixture of modern art, fun and a welcoming atmosphere.

In the last MOLIMU essentials post, I introduced you to a first selection of some of my favorite baseball caps from my collection. At the end of that post, I wrote about the Marc Jacobs x New Era collaboration which definately was one of the first mixture of a higher end brand with New Era. Since then many trendy labels have picked up on street influences and urban culture for their collections. As a result the baseball cap has definately seen a resurgence in style and is seen as a legit fashion choice for fasionistas. Therefore, I will show you some of the collaborations that led to this new acceptance of the Basecap.

In light of my recent post on Ryan Gosling, the news of this movie gets me quite excited! I had no idea, that the great Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn was filming another movie with his "Drive" leading actor. "Only God Forgives" is another crime thriller that seems to be in line with Drive style- and brutality-wise.
Next to Gosling the movie stars Kristin Scott Thomas and is set in Bangkonk where the lead character Julian is involved in some underworld drug activities that certainly do not end well. The movie will hit US-theaters on July 19 and could definately shoot Winding Refn up to other cult directors such as Quentin Tarantino! Let's hope that it is as good as "Drive".

Lately, it looks like Disney has increased it's marketing efforts to get a little more trendy and fashionable. Starting with a New Era basecap collaboration it is now targeting the High-Fashion sector with some great video spots. During last year's Christmas time, some of their famous characters were given the Fashionista-makeover by slimming down the silhouettes and by letting them wear some of the hottest brands right now like Balenciaga or Givenchy.

Like always, I have taken way too long to continue our little "Music Check" series and therefore have missed to write about too many good songs to mention. This week, Thierry Mugler announced the departure of Nicola Formichetti, the stylist-turned-Creative director. Shortly after, Diesel's mastermind Renzo Rosso presented the designer as the first ever creative director for the Diesel brand. He will be responsible product, marketing, and communication divisions of both Diesel and its Black & Gold line starting with his first collection for Fall/Winter 2014.

I have always loved Daft Punk’s innovative and funked-out electronic music. Even back in the day, I could not sit still when I listened to any of Thomas Bangalter’s older releases on the “Roulé” label and they are still better than most of the releases that are put out today. But it was certainly his grouping with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo as “Daft Punk” that brought his music to the next level and turned both of them into legends.

Wow, this news was quite the shocker when it came out! Apparently Kid Cudi has decided to part ways with his longtime label G.O.O.D Music, Kanye West's record label. This comes quite surprisingly as he has always been one of the most prominent members of the team and has been repping the label loudly. Just last year, he still seemed very involved when Complex magazine interviewed the entire roster as part of a series on the label in line with the release of the first label compilation "Cruel Summer".

I have always liked wearing hats, even as a kid I sported a basecap on the regular. That's why I have decided to choose some of my favorite caps for this edition of MOLIMU essentials. I started collecting hats when I was a little skater kid back in the day and haven't stopped since. Even though the canvas stays the same, my choices and habits of wearing basecaps have changed quite a bit over the years as a result of changing interests and trends.

When it comes to shopping, everyone has these items that they have always been obsessing over but simply couldn’t get their hands on yet, wether for financial reasons or due to limited availability. I am in the unfortunate position of having far too many of these items which can be pretty depressing but also serves as a great motivator. As a result of exaggerated prices and the increasing amount of fakes, the search for sources that still offer these items has become something of a treasure hunt for those in the know. Some of these products were only hyped up designs that did not really stand the test of time and I am very happy that I did not spend any money on them. On the other hand, I have some long-time favorites that have always intrigued me and still excert this special aura of great design mixed with limited numbers. I decided to write about some examples that I will hopefully call my own one day, but as for now can only admire and obsess about on the Internet.
To start things off, I’ve chosen one of my favorite accessories of all time: the Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse Graffiti Pareo scarf.
